Davao Crocodile Park

Davao Crocodile Park is not really about the crocodiles alone but is about a rich variety of other animals as well. It’s a mini-zoo that lets its visitors experience close encounters with various animals and even interact with some of them, but the main highlight, of course, is the crocodiles. A visit here would be perfect for the family and individuals who are fascinated with wildlife and wants to learn more about them.

Upon entering the park, we were welcomed by a statue of a kid holding the Davao Crocodile Park logo, a crocodile statue and a skeleton of the sea cow which is known as “Dugong” in Filipino. It says in the board behind that Dugong is the only remaining representative of the once-diverse family Dugongidae; its closest modern relative, Steller’s sea cow, was hunted to extinction in the 18th century. This herbivore has an average size of 9.8 feet and is a close relative of the manatee.

Pangil - Davao Crocodile Farm — Pangil (Fang)

This sanctuary takes care of the crocodile named Pangil which is now the biggest crocodile in the Philippines after the crocodile named Lolong died last February 10, 2013. Lolong’s size is 20 feet 3 inches while Pangil’s size is 18 feet. The name “Pangil” means “Fang” in Filipino. We’ve been staring at Pangil for quite some time but it doesn’t seem to move at all. It seems to me that it’s having an afternoon siesta with its mouth and eyes both open.

But of course, the crocodiles won’t be happy without its friends to tag along—even Superman has Super Friends. We can see that this mini-zoo is not short of other variety of animals that every visitor would enjoy. The ones in the pictures are just some of them, but there’s actually more. I bet the zoo owners are working on adding more animal variety to make it more interesting. I hope that large aquariums with rare fishes are also on their list.

We also saw a souvenir shop where you can purchase items like bags and belts made out of crocodile skin. These products are produced by the crocodile farm that is part of the crocodile park complex. On top of being a zoo, they also stock a lot of white water rafting gears as well.
