Camiguin is a small island in Northern Mindanao that is packed with several wonderful attractions. Its white-sand beaches, colossal waterfalls, crystal clear springs and historical sites are exceptionally captivating. Certain places have one splendid attraction and the rest are just average—but what made Camiguin stand out is that almost everything that we explored here is far from being mediocre. It’s quite baffling to know how a lot of great attractions can be found on the same island.
A tour of this little island will make you feel that you’ve visited different provinces. To be more particular, Camiguin’s Mantigue white sand beach reminded me of Boracay because of its fine sands. Lake Sebu came to my mind when we visited the gigantic Katibawasan Falls. Bura Soda’s spring waters are fresh and clean enough for everyone to drink like in most parts of Banaue. It was really refreshing to drink from their springs after our tiring long walks.
Ardent Hibok-Hibok Spring Resort is the best hot spring that I visited so far. It’s definitely better than any of the hot springs that we visited in Laguna and other provinces. Its water’s temperature is just right and how the spring was broken into certain sections was really creative. The Guiob Church Ruins looked like Intramuros and the Sunken Cemetery’s sunset is a fantastic sight that’s truly one of a kind.
Abundant in natural resources, this island is also abounding in fresh, tasty and rich in various food. There are so many restaurants here to choose from that offer great quality meals. From seafood to red meat, from local to foreign—mouth-watering food awaits you here. Try not to miss their proudly made products like pastel bread and kiping (Cassava Flakes).

How to get there:
If you’re flying from Metro Manila, you can either take the cheap or the convenient option to reach Camiguin.
Convenient Option:
Since there are no direct flights from Metro Manila to Camiguin yet as of writing, what you can do is fly to Cebu first before flying to Camiguin. Cebu Pacific & Philippine Airlines have flights from Cebu to Camiguin. If you’re lucky to catch a promo flight fare for both Cebu and Camiguin, this might actually be a cheaper option on top of being convenient.
Cheap Option:
From Metro Manila, you can fly straight to Cagayan de Oro. From the airport, you can take a taxi to Agora Market and then take a bus going to Balingoan port. The bus travel can take up to 3 hours with a ticket cost of P150.00.
From Balingoan Port, you can take a ferry to Benoni wharf in Camiguin. This will cost you around P130.00 to 170.00 depending on the ferry boat rate. The ferry boats are available from 5:30 AM to 4:30 PM with a 1-hour interval. The travel time can take up to 2 hours.
We took the convenient option because our time was short and my wife will be coming from Negros Occidental while I’ll be coming from Metro Manila. She got ahead of me to the resort but we both took the Cebu route back and forth.

Explorer’s Tip:
To save money on transportation, you can have a short walk outside the airport and then take a tricycle at a regular rate of 9 pesos. When I was about to leave the airport, several tricycle drivers offered me a ride for 200 pesos which I declined. A guy with a motorcycle (habal-habal) offered to get me to our resort for 150 pesos which I also declined but he dropped it to 100 pesos. I took the ride but saw several regular tricycles passing by later. It made me realize that I could have taken one of those instead so that’s what I did when I went back to the airport.
If you’re after a food trip as well, we recommend booking Camiguin resorts and hotels near the Mambajao area. This is the town proper where you can delight yourself with a great variety of restaurants.
